Built for players roughly 9 to 11 years old (arm length 22"–23"), the 3/4 violin is the size most students move into as their technique — and their reach — starts to mature. It carries the same Guarneri del Gesù "Plowden"-inspired design as our full-size instruments, scaled with the same care rather than simplified for a "student" price point.

Students at this stage are starting to hear the difference a well-graduated instrument makes: even tone across the strings, a neck they can actually get around, and projection that doesn't disappear in an ensemble. A 3/4 that fights the player teaches bad habits that are hard to unlearn later — ours is built so technique, not the instrument, is what a teacher has to correct.

Every V. Richelieu™ is made entirely in our Vermont workshop, hand-graduated by senior luthiers who thin each top and back to precise, individually judged measurements — not a factory template. Our spruce is hand-split and sourced from Italy and Switzerland; our maple comes from Bosnia. Where we can, we build with FSC®-certified tonewoods and offer GaiaTone and Sonowood as ebony-alternative fittings, so exceptional sound doesn't come at the expense of the forests it depends on. The oil-based varnish on every instrument is hand-painted by an accomplished oil portrait artist — a detail most makers at this price point skip entirely.
