COVID-19 RENTAL SUPPORT. BOW PROBLEMS.

During the school closures, self-quarantines and just wanting to apply an abundance of caution, many of us do not want to come into public spaces. But our instruments still need service! Vermont Violins can help keep you playing without leaving home. Many of the visits we get in our shop are to take care of things we can take care of remotely.

Vermont Violins has a very favorable shipping rate with UPS and we can generate mailing tickets that you can use to ship instruments or bows to us for repair or replacement. We can also conduct rental exchanges, size-ups or quality-ups, all through the post! It couldn’t be easier…or safer!

Here are some handy forms to get you started. We don’t ask for credit cards on these forms, so you can expect a phone call to go over those details and to ask some other questions.

How To Ship a Bow….

Shipping a bow is both easy and safe when done correctly. Fiberglass and Carbon Fiber bows, such as you find in most of our rental outfits, are virtually indestructible.

If you are needing to have a rental bow repaired, we would not need you to ship back the bow! Only fine pernambuco bows, which we rent separately or the fine pernambuco bows included in Richelieu rental packages need to be sent back for repairs.

So, for most of you, this is not information you need! Just hold onto the old bow and return it next time you are in the shop or are returning your instrument for a size or quality upgrade.

How to pack the box:

  1. Loosen the hair on the bow

  2. Wrap it in plastic or bubble wrap.

  3. Tape to a strong wood board, a little longer than the bow itself. Plywood works well.

  4. Ideally: put the board into a PVC tube. If the box you use is strong and the board the bow is attached to is strong, the tube is not critical

  5. Surround the bow and board with more bubble wrap.

  6. Ship in a triangular box, available from UPS/USPO/Fed Ex.

If you would like us to send you a UPS shipping tag, we can do that! Our rates are very favorable…Just let us know in the form.

Something Wrong with Your Bow?

If your rental bow can’t be tightened, or is too loose, or just short too many hairs it should be replaced or rehaired. Replaced in most cases. Let us know and we’ll send off a new bow pronto. You can return the old one next time you are sending back an instrument.
