Telynau Teifi

Built by some of the nicest people on the face of the planet....and the highest quality workmanship, the harps of Telynau Teifi set a new standard of excellence for players of all levels seeking harps that represent the finest in old-world craftsmanship.

The workshop lives in a converted Victorian schoolhouse on the banks of the river Teifi in central Wales.  Master harpmaker, Allan Shiers, (trained by legendary harp maker, John Weston Thomas), has been building Teifi harps for over 40 years and has created a legacy that combines modern materials and construction techniques with ancient building traditions to create harps that are both gorgeous of tone and look and are affordable for all.

The Siff-Saff 34 is a larger format harp for the advancing student or professional player.  The rounded soundbox creates a comfortable play and the gut strings offer a warm tone that harpists adore. Given the Welsh name for the Chiff-Chaff songbird that sings each morning in the glade outside the workshop doors, the Siff Saff offers a versatile tone that is consistent and balanced, yet resonant through the range of the instrument.  The removable legs adds a convenience and each teifi semi-tone lever is hand made in the workshop as well.

“Vermont Violins is doing a great service to the harp community locally and nationally by offering such an affordable rental program AND financing program for both large harps and small harps. There is a great range of harps available to order, from the 26 string Ravenna from Dusty Strings, a great small, portable harp with a professional sound, to the large 34 string Siff Saff from Telynau Teifi (Harp Centre of Wales) which is a fantastic student harp for those starting out who want a full size harp. Other harp models from both companies are available to order by request, which gives even the professional harpist wonderful options to upgrade their harps or expand their harp family!”

“I was thrilled that Vermont Violins approached me to help with this project. I’ve always wanted a local option for my students and I’ve always loved the folks at Vermont Violins…it’s a perfect match! The harps are great for my students and is a great option for them until they are ready for their professional instrument.”

”I have been the happy owner of a “Sharpsicle” Harpsicle Harp for over five years. Lightweight yet remarkably resilient, I am continually impressed with the big, beautiful sound that this travel-friendly harp produces. Perfectly suited for beginners, this instrument is also an excellent choice for advanced and professional players because of its versatility and reliability. I have used this harp for numerous performances, and am always amazed by the remarkable tone, despite its size! But perhaps the most important aspect to me is how much fun this harp is to play. I wholeheartedly recommend Harpsicle Harps!”
