RETAIL SALES MANAGER
Love playing the violin? Viola or cello? Love sharing it with others? Here’s an opportunity to share your passion with the musical world of New England. We are seeking a Retail Sales Manager …an individual with a passion for music and the ability to facilitate effective management of the retail location.
This full-time position offers the chance to join a great team and play a leadership role in Vermont Violins. The Manager is responsible for delivering exceptional customer experiences and maintaining and building quality relations with the region’s players, teachers and students.
Responsibilities
Customer communications and outreach
Provide expert customer service and product guidance
Maintaining a welcoming space that is organized and attractive
Creating visual displays of products with dynamic merchandising
Direct Sales
Tracking customer projects, orders and rental requests
Managing on-shelf inventory, feeding ordering and inventory data to the company purchaser.
Facilities and Infrastructure—keeping things working!
Marketing and Advertising, working with the Marketing Director and owners
Liason work with other location
Lead and manage the store team to achieve sales targets and operational goals.
Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures while maintaining a high level of customer service.
Monitor inventory levels, pricing strategies, and product displays to optimize sales.
Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork and collaboration among staff.
Address customer inquiries and resolve issues promptly to maintain customer satisfaction.
Participate in company social media campaigns
Analyze sales reports and market trends to identify opportunities for growth.
Skills
Proven experience in retail sales management, preferably in a music store setting.
Proficiency with violin, viola or cello - preferred.
Excellent time management skills to efficiently prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Strong computer skills with fluency in Microsoft 360 applications and, preferably, Point of Sale software
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
Enjoys working with and interacting with children and exudes an upbeat attitude that reflects enthusiasm and passion for the instruments!
Ability to analyze pricing strategies and make data-driven decisions to boost sales performance.
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with customers and staff alike.
Valid Driver's license and
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
Qualifications
5 years of retail experience, with some Management, preferably in a music store
Proficiency with violin, viola, cello preferred
BA or equivalent.

Vermont Violins is a respected, mid-sized violin shop serving students, educators, performers, and collectors. We specialize in fine violins, violas, cellos, bows, rentals, repairs, and accessories. We also manufacture instruments that are distributed nationally and manage an active online store with national clientele. We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Purchaser / Buyer to manage and optimize our purchasing operations. This role is critical in ensuring our shop maintains the right inventory, strong vendor partnerships, and accurate financial records.
Position Overview
The Purchaser will oversee all procurement activities including inventory planning, vendor coordination, receiving, invoice processing, and reconciliation. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working with numbers and systems, and capable of building strong relationships with specialty instrument suppliers and lutherie material vendors.
Key ResponsibilitiesPurchasing & Vendor Relations
Develop and maintain a purchasing plan aligned with sales trends, rental program needs, repair shop requirements, and budget goals.
Source and maintain relationships with violin, bow, accessory, case, string, and lutherie supply vendors (domestic and international).
Prepare, issue, and track purchase orders.
Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules to ensure best value and product availability.
Monitor vendor quality, fulfillment accuracy, and lead times.
Identify alternative suppliers when necessary.
Inventory & POS Management
Receive instruments, bows, accessories, and shop materials and accurately enter them into the Point of Sale (POS) system.
Maintain appropriate stock levels to support retail sales, rentals, and repair shop operations.
Assist with instrument and accessory inventory audits.
Collaborate with sales staff, rental department, and luthiers to anticipate purchasing needs.
Track serial numbers and documentation for instruments and bows when applicable.
Accounting & Reconciliation
Enter vendor invoices accurately into POS/accounting systems.
Reconcile company credit card statements with POS purchasing records.
Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, pricing errors, and shipping issues with vendors.
Maintain organized purchasing and receiving records.
Operational & Strategic Support
Track purchasing metrics such as cost trends, margins, inventory turnover, and vendor performance.
Assist with seasonal buying strategies (school season, festival season, etc.).
Support new product launches and shop merchandising efforts.
Assist with budgeting and forecasting.
Ensure compliance with import/shipping documentation for international instrument and parts purchases when applicable.
Qualifications
2+ years experience in purchasing, procurement, inventory management, or retail buying.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Experience working with POS or inventory management software.
Strong spreadsheet and basic accounting skills.
Excellent communication and vendor negotiation skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced retail environment.
Preferred (Not Required)
Experience working in a violin shop, music store, or specialty retail environment.
Knowledge of orchestral string instruments, bows, or lutherie supplies.
Experience with AIM (preferred), QuickBooks, or similar systems.
Familiarity with international shipping or specialty instrument vendors.

SALES ASSOCIATE
We are anticipating an opening in our South Burlington location for a full-time Sales Associate to assist in customer relations on the front-end of sales. This position which will further take a leading role in coordinating our rental program and requires great communication, excellent attention to detail, solid computer skills and outstanding client relations communication skills with creativity, warmth and enthusiasm!
The ideal client will have a strong understanding of the violin family, will enjoy working with kids and adults and exude an upbeat positive attitude that reflects the enthusiasm we all feel for our instruments and work as a strong team member willing and able to contribute to the overall positive life of the shop!
The ideal candidate will be exceptionally well organized and attentive to detail and be adept at multi-tasking in a complex environment. Vermont Violins offers an excellent pay scale starting at $25/hour plus retirement, Paid Time Off and product discount benefits. This position is full-time and requires some Saturday work and driving. The anticipated opening is in June 2026 but earlier hire may be possible for the right candidate.

LUTHIER, WEST LEBANON, NEW HAMPSHIRE
Vermont Violins seeks a new, full-time member for its Luthier team, based in West Lebanon, New Hampshire. Successful applicant will be one who seeks a cooperative and supportive work environment in which team work is encouraged in an atmosphere of goal-oriented, mutual respect. Excellent attention to detail and enjoyment of the workshop/retail environment is essential.
This position will utilize lutherie skills to effect excellent set ups of owned instruments, repairs and adjustments of client instruments and participation in the all-company effort to build and distribute our own line of violins and violas, sold under the V. Richelieu label.
