Charles Richstone has been working on violin making in Brattleboro, Vermont, for over 30 years. This uniquely American viola, with a dramatically flamed back plate and a warm honey varnish, offers a visual and tonal experience for a player seeking a larger viola that offers a warm and responsive tone. The highly arched top plate creates a sweet, sonorous tone that will blend well for ensemble play. The slim format offers ease of play, yet Richstone used a wider upper bout to expand the tone. The backplate roars with deep, dramatic tiger-figuring. The work is clean and the model unique. The viola is in excellent condition: the top plate bears a short superficial scratch, and a very small amount of heat damage resides in the lower bout of the back plate.

Prior to the Doetsch line being a part of the Eastman Strings line of fine instruments, it stood alone as a German import.  This is one of those rare gems: a 15" Rudoulf Doetsch, made in Germany and sold originally in the 1990s.  The viola is in excellent condition, with minor scratches only.  Normally, the Rudoulf Doetsch violas run $2825.  We are happy to offer this viola at $1500.

This is an Eastman 100 13” Viola from 2006. This is an excellent fractional viola for a beginner.

This instrument is in excellent collection and requires no repairs. It has new Ascente strings.
