For decades, many cellists have struggled with instruments that don't fit their physical needs. The traditional 4/4 cello has a 690mm string length. For players with smaller hands, this can cause discomfort and make playing harder.
That's why we created the Scala Corta cello. We designed it specifically to solve this problem.
Designed for Comfort and Playability
The Scala Corta is the culmination of years of research into historical and modern instrument design. Master luthier Stephanie Voss studied 16th-century Brescian cellos and worked with soloists like Natalie Clein and Carter Brey. The result: an instrument that's easier to play but sounds just as powerful as a full-size instrument.
She crafted a cello that's easier to play while maintaining the powerful sound of a full-size instrument.
The string length is 655mm—between a 3/4 and 7/8 size. The body outline and top stop length also make it easier to reach around the instrument.
We also shaped the body to make reaching around easier.
The Scala Corta offers a smaller scale without sacrificing sound quality.
Traditional 7/8 cellos have smaller bodies, which can reduce projection. The Scala Corta keeps the full body length of a 4/4 cello. This ensures that you get the full, resonant sound and powerful projection you expect from a professional-grade instrument.
