TI ROSIN: The new THOMASTIK-INFELD rosin for violin including BOOSTER

THOMASTIK'S NEW ROSIN FOR PROFESSIONALS
The universal rosin for all climatic conditions

The rosin supports focus, bow response and brilliance, helps to improve the resonance of the strings and facilitates clear articulation. It provides a secure hold, but at the same time a balance of grip and suppleness - helping to activate the core of the sound.
Rosin also improves the projection of warmth and color - all the way to the back row of the concert hall. The rosin has been developed to work in a wide range of climatic conditions. It is supplied with a silicone cap for protection.

2-component rosin: with sound booster

TI rosin for violin consists of 2 components. Both can be combined individually as required.
Violin Rosin: for better brilliance and sound projection.
Warm Booster: additional warmth in the sound and stronger grip when playing.

Rosin Has Evolved. This Is Where It's Arrived.

Rosin is the invisible engine of string playing. It is the friction medium between horsehair and string — the element that determines whether your bow grips cleanly, whether your tone projects fully, whether your articulation speaks clearly or collapses into muddiness. For most of the instrument's history, selecting rosin was a relatively simple decision: soft or hard, light or dark, maybe with a dye.

That era is over. Rosin formulation is now a sophisticated discipline, and no release in recent memory has advanced it more thoughtfully than the TI Rosin for Violin by Thomastik-Infeld.

The Two-Component System — Intelligently Designed

Thomastik-Infeld — the Austrian string manufacturer whose Dominant and Vision strings are standard-setters at every level of play — approached rosin development the same way they approach string technology: with precision engineering and rigorous acoustic testing. The TI Rosin is not a single-block product. It is a dual-component system housed in a single, elegantly designed metal container with a magnetic closure mechanism.

Open the case and you find two distinct rosin formulations occupying the same compact footprint:

Violin Rosin (the primary component, approximately two-thirds of the block): A bright, focused rosin engineered for sound projection and brilliance. It activates the core of the string's tone, supports clean bow response, and maximizes the instrument's carrying power — essential for ensemble playing, orchestral performance, and any context where volume and clarity are non-negotiable.

Warm Booster (the secondary component, approximately one-third of the block): A warming formulation designed to add color, depth, and grip to the bow stroke. Where the primary rosin opens up projection, the Booster deepens the tonal palette, rounding out the sound and adding that extra layer of warmth that chamber music, solo performance, and recordings frequently demand.

The player controls the blend. A few strokes on the primary rosin, followed by a measured application of the Booster, creates a custom tonal balance calibrated to the player's instrument, their bow, the music they are performing, and the acoustic environment they are playing in. It is a level of personalization that has historically required purchasing multiple separate rosin blocks — Leatherwood Bespoke pioneered the concept of blendable formulations, but required separate purchases to achieve it. Thomastik-Infeld delivers the same sophistication in a single, self-contained kit.

Formulation and Materials

The rosin composition draws on a complex blend of ingredients sourced from five continents, selected through extensive acoustic testing and consultation with professional violinists. The formulation is optimized to work across a wide range of climatic conditions — a practical consideration that most rosins fail to address, and one that matters enormously for players who travel, perform in variable environments, or live in climates with significant seasonal humidity shifts.

The container itself merits mention. The machined metal case with its magnetic snap closure is a purposeful design decision: it protects the rosin from dust and humidity, prevents accidental cracking from drops, and makes the application process cleaner and more controlled than traditional bare-block or paper-wrapped formats. A silicone cap is also included for additional protection.

Application — Getting the Balance Right

Thomastik-Infeld recommends applying two strokes along the full length of the bow using the primary Violin Rosin, followed by approximately half that amount of the Warm Booster. This is a starting point, not a fixed rule. Players will naturally adjust the ratio based on what their ear tells them. The key caution — and it is a real one — is not to over-apply the Booster. Excessive rosin of any kind reduces projection and creates unwanted surface noise; the Booster's richer formulation is particularly sensitive to over-application.

The dual-component design also extends the functional life of the product. Because each component is used in different quantities and at different rates, the overall rosin lasts significantly longer than a comparable single-block alternative — an important consideration given the premium price point.

Compatibility

While Thomastik-Infeld positions TI Rosin as the natural companion to their own string lines, Vermont Violins' experience confirms what the manufacturer acknowledges: this rosin performs beautifully across all quality strings. Players using Pirastro, Larsen, D'Addario, or any other major manufacturer's strings will find the TI Rosin equally responsive and tonally compatible.
