Back to School Strings: Rental Season Begins
VERMONT VIOLINS NEWSROOM – We always anticipate the arrival of autumn in Vermont with great relish. As the summer months come to a close and the morning air turns crisp, the hillsides soon begin breaking out in vibrant reds and golds. Along with this stunning seasonal change comes one of our absolute favorite—and undoubtedly busiest—times of the entire year: the back-to-school season.
For our workshop and showroom, autumn represents an exhilarating chapter of new beginnings and renewal. Over the coming weeks, we will prepare and send out hundreds of student violins, violas, cellos, and double basses to young players across Vermont, New England, and throughout the country.
The Excitement of the First Note
There is nothing quite like witnessing the sheer excitement of a student holding their very first instrument case. For many of the young faces walking through our doors, this marks their initial steps into the violin family; for others, it is their very first experience playing any musical instrument at all.
Our educational rental program has stood as an essential staple of public and private school music curricula, youth symphonies, and private studios for decades. We take immense pride in supporting the dedicated music educators who work tirelessly every day to build vibrant, musical communities. Every instrument we send across our bench receives the same precise set-ups, peg adjustment, bridge alignment, and soundpost calibration as our professional models, ensuring our students' earliest musical steps are met with an easy, responsive, and beautiful tone.
Thirty Years of Generational Music-Making
Having rented and cared for instruments for more than 30 years, one of our greatest joys is welcoming second-generation families into the shop.
Adults whom we outfitted with fractional violins when they were children are now walking through our doors holding the hands of their own sons and daughters, ready to begin their musical journey. In fact, we are now even welcoming some grandchildren of our earliest students! While seeing generations return certainly reminds us of the passage of time, it fills us with profound gratitude to have played such a lasting role in the soundtrack of so many families' lives across New England.
