Why the Right Instrument Matters

As you support your young violinist or violist on their musical journey, you’ll be faced with many important decisions. One of the most significant is what instrument to choose. It’s easy to think that a cheaper, mass-produced instrument is sufficient for a beginner, but the truth is, a quality instrument is a crucial partner in your child’s development at ALL stages of their learning.

While it's tempting to save money with a lower-cost instrument, it can actually hinder your child's progress and enjoyment. Maximising your students learning means getting a great teacher and a great instrument. Spending less on one undermines the investment you make in the other.

Take the time to do it right. Select a great teacher and a V. Richelieu™ instrument.

Watch this video from the owners Oren Kronick and Kathy Reilly as they share their 30+ years of expertise in providing quality string instruments for students of all levels.

ONE FAMILY'S RENTAL EXPERIENCE

From a seven-year-old beginner to a college student performing with her own professional viola, Camille Heidel’s 12-year musical journey is a testament to the power of the right partnership. In this featured customer story, mother Ginger Heidel shares how our equity-building rental program allowed Camille to seamlessly upgrade her instruments as she grew, ensuring she always had a high-quality "true viola" to match her evolving talent.

See how our flexible, quality-focused approach can empower your child's musical future from the very first note.

ABOUT The New England Suzuki Institute (NESI)

The New England Suzuki Institute (NESI) is held at Colby College and is open to students who play the violin, viola, cello, piano, or guitar, as well as their caregivers, who work with a Suzuki teacher to learn the Suzuki repertoire. Students who have been traditionally trained in piano or guitar can easily be incorporated into the program.

All students who are 12 years old and younger must come with an adult chaperone.

NESI is committed to providing an exceptional learning experience for students of all ages in an environment that offers one-on-one attention. Because of the focus on individual instruction, registration is limited to 130 students and is processed on a first-come, first-served basis. It is essential to register early, as spots often fill up quickly—often before the June 1st deadline!
