FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Yes! Its compact size and robust design makes it perfect for travel.

We often receive the question of whether you can take Harp•E as carry-on luggage. This is possible, but it varies by airline. Please check your airline for the allowed dimensions. The dimensions of the Harp•E including the bag are: Length: 91 cm, width 52 cm, height 11 cm.

  • The lowest string is an octave below middle C. The highest string is the E two octaves above middle C.

  • The harps are electroacoustic. This allows the flexibility to play both unplugged or electric. However, they are not as loud as your standard pedal harp. Harp-E is perfect for living spaces where you can’t play too loud or want to practice at night without waking up neighbors. The harp is loud enough to be heard clearly when practicing or in a small gathering. If you are playing on a stage, with a band, or as background music for a medium to large gathering, we recommend amplification.

  • Yes.

Sensor specifications: Self-shielding singular transducer along all strings.

Pre-amp specifications: Custom designed low power, very low noise FET input 2 stage amplifier with contour filtering and rail to rail performance.

Also includes dual mode battery monitoring with 4 level state warning via RGB LED. Battery: 9V included (lasts for hundreds of playing hours, standard battery, easy replace).

  • The electric amplification system is not a passive pick-up, nor simple piezo elements, but a fully self-shielding and integrated amplification system spanning all strings. This means you won't get any feedback problems like you would with a pick-up, nor low hums like you would with piezos.

A built-in, smart pre-amplifier ensures high signal-to-noise ratio, zero latency and full compatibility with any effects, stage amps and studio equipment.

You could also just link it to a mini interface with your smartphone or tablet and record and edit on the go.

  • - play acoustically, OR connect to:

    - Small amp setup, connected simply with a mono jack

    - PA systems, monitors, mixing desks

    - Multi-effect pedals

    - Studio equipment: plug directly into the mixing desk

    - Smart phone, hifi, headphones and with digital audio workstations like GarageBand, through simple interfaces.

Check the @harp_e_harp YouTube channel or the "Getting started" section on this website.

  • The electronics are fully compatible with professional PA systems, monitors, mixing desks. Sound engineers will love that it's just plug & play: no feedback, no mics, no complications.

  • The Harp·E electronics are compatible with all professional studio equipment, just plug directly into the mixing desk.

  • Smart phone, hifi, headphones: the Harp·E, connected to a tablet or smartphone can be turned into an ultra portable setup. A small interface is needed for that, just like with electric guitars, for example the iRig or Sonic Port. All sorts of effects pedals can be added via free apps, controlled on the screen or wirelessly with extensions. Combine this with a free digital audio workstation like GarageBand and you've got a complete mobile recording studio. Of course you can also plug this into your HiFi or headphones.

Check our "getting started" page for videos and tips. More to follow, also on our YouTube channel @harp_e_harp

  • As with all electro-acoustic instruments, you will hear contact sounds with the harp's body, this is something to get used to. When you get the hang of it you can play with it as an added expression option to your harp playing (e.g. looping tapped rhythms)

ABOUT: HARP-E

Harp·E is the brainchild of London-based, multi-award-winning Dutch designer Joris Beets. A harpist himself, Joris made waves in the harp world with his creation of the DELTA Harp, a sleek electro-acoustic instrument that earned the prestigious Red Dot Design Award and is now played by musicians worldwide on major stages, produced, and sold by SALVI Harps. Despite DELTA's success, the high cost of quality lever harps remained an issue. To address this, Joris and his team reinvented the lever mechanism and frame construction, utilizing top-notch strings and a state-of-the-art sound pickup system.

The result? Harp·E, a stage-ready instrument at a fraction of the cost. Partnering with the Dutch Harp Festival and "Het Leerorkest," an Amsterdam-based NGO, the Harp·E team extensively researched the needs of musicians, students, teachers, and schools, aiming to solve the traditional harp's pain points - high cost, fragility, weight, and difficulty in amplification and orchestral use. The outcome is an affordable, flat-packed, self-assembly electro-acoustic harp that is both durable and lightweight, delivering exceptional sound quality and string tension. Harp·E invites everyone to experience the joy and magic of this beautiful instrument.
