It’s a tax on anything coming into the country and, along with all the other impacts on inflation, raises our cost of living.
It's hard being in the middle. Many of our prices are pre-set by the manufacturers so we get hit with the tariff increases with limited ability to raise our prices. Other times, the pre-set, tariff-loaded, prices do go up, and we have to pass them on to our customers whether we want to or not. Margins vary by product so we can not always absorb cost increases, though often we can.
While Vermont Violins is a retailer, the folks who work here are all consumers like you. We all feel our daily costs rising – rent, tariffs, health care, groceries. It all adds up to a higher cost of living for a more limited lifestyle as choices in our purchases have to be made…often by just cutting expenses altogether.
