Workshops, harpist’s lunch, and concert all in one day!

We are so excited to partner with the Upper Valley Music Center to offer a day of harp with Rachel Clemente and Sara Forward. Harpists of all skill level are invited to join us for two workshops, a lunch with the opportunity to perform a piece yourself, and a concert from Rachel as a finale to our day.

The day will include both of these interactive workshops:

1) Scottish Repertoire Builder

Join Scottish harp instructor Rachel Clemente as she covers traditional tunes from the western isles of Scotland. You will learn a melody and then discuss ideas of ornamentation, accompaniment and the elements that help you make the tune your own. Rachel will teach by ear with sheet music available for reference at the end of the class

2) Playing for joy and relaxation

Join licensed clinical social worker and harpist Sara Forward for a session of exploring ways to approach your harp playing as a way to relax, build energy and well being, and experience joy.  Explore the way that harp string vibrations and modes of tuning can calm nerves or even increase blood flow and brain activity.  Learn one or two new exercises to try at home to increase your comfort and connection with your instrument.

Lunch is included in your price for the day and we will set up a small harp and invite you to play a piece or two if you’d like as we eat and enjoy each other’s company.

Please register for either beginner or intermediate as we will divide the workshops accordingly.

Beginner: Have little or no experience with playing songs, are just learning hand and finger position and notes on the harp and are maybe not playing hands together much yet.

Intermediate and beyond: Comfortable playing songs and hands together. Can read some music and comfortable finding the notes on the harp.
