Beginner’s Guide: Getting Started With Harps.

Ogden-ebony.jpg

Whether you are new to music or have a lifetime of playing behind you, the Celtic Harp is one of the most immediately rewarding instruments you can play.  We’re often asked: “is the Harp difficult to learn?”  and the answer is no.  Like the game, it might take a lifetime to master, but the harp’s gentle voice is forgiving; the notes come easily and whether you are playing melodies or harmonizing you’ll find the harp to be easily navigated to create a wonderful musical experience.  And if you’ve ever played piano, well, the harp is a keyless piano so note reading will be a breeze. With some basic skills understood, you’ll be quickly playing music that will fill your home and soul with joy!

TESTIMONIALS

“It has been my extremely happy experience, from the very first harp (Ravenna 26), to the Salvi Mia, and on to the current Crescendo, that working with you all at Vermont Violins has been so pleasant, easy and enjoyable! Your rental/purchase program is super-convenient and affordable, and your selection of harps for purchase or rental is absolutely wonderful.

Thanks very much for your great help! I will certainly continue to do business with VV in the future!”

“Vermont Violins is doing a great service to the harp community locally and nationally by offering such an affordable rental program AND financing program for both large harps and small harps. There is a great range of harps available to order, from the 26 string Ravenna from Dusty Strings, a great small, portable harp with a professional sound, to the large 34 string Siff Saff from Telynau Teifi (Harp Centre of Wales) which is a fantastic student harp for those starting out who want a full size harp. Other harp models from both companies are available to order by request, which gives even the professional harpist wonderful options to upgrade their harps or expand their harp family!”

“I was thrilled that Vermont Violins approached me to help with this project. I’ve always wanted a local option for my students and I’ve always loved the folks at Vermont Violins…it’s a perfect match! The harps are great for my students and is a great option for them until they are ready for their professional instrument.”

Sara is wonderful, and I am so, so happy to finally have someone in Vermont that does tune ups and repairs on harps. If there was someone before, I didn’t know about it. She is courteous, kind, and even came to my house for some fine tuning. Thanks Sara~

”I have been the happy owner of a “Sharpsicle” Harpsicle Harp for over five years. Lightweight yet remarkably resilient, I am continually impressed with the big, beautiful sound that this travel-friendly harp produces. Perfectly suited for beginners, this instrument is also an excellent choice for advanced and professional players because of its versatility and reliability. I have used this harp for numerous performances, and am always amazed by the remarkable tone, despite its size! But perhaps the most important aspect to me is how much fun this harp is to play. I wholeheartedly recommend Harpsicle Harps!”

“I was apprehensive at first about making a large purchase as this but, I wanted a quality instrument and wanted it to be a harp by Salvi. Oren listened to my questions and with his knowledge of Salvi harps, his kind and professional demeanor put me at ease. He explained to me the order process and what to expect until it would be delivered to my home.

Thank you, Oren and everyone at Vermont Violins! I have been enjoying my Salvi Titan and you all helped make my dream of being able to own a harp a reality!”

- Lamar Puckett

I purchased a Salvi Juno 22 harp. I had seen one when taking the beginners harp class with Sara and was waiting for one to come into the store. A Juno 27 came in but that was a bit too big and Xiu was very helpful in calling out to Oren and Sara who were at Lyon and Healy where they had a Mahogany 22 like a was looking for and they facilitated the purchase. Everyone was very helpful and I couldn’t be more pleased with my purchase.

Good morning! Much thanks to Oren for the long anticipated delivery of an amazing harp!! It arrived on the 5th and after eagerly awaiting the 24 hours, I was able to hear it on the 6th, which happened to be my birthday! I have so much to learn and I am excited to get started. Thanks again for making a musical dream of mine come true.
